Stadion Buniamshof is defined by its position between the Elbe-Trave-Kanal and the Trave river, a location that places it in a corridor of water and history rather than pure sport. The architects Erwin Barth and Harry Maasz designed a ground that accommodated multiple disciplines, but the athletics track remains the technical standout. It is the only one of an eight-lane synthetic track in Schleswig-Holstein, a detail that sets the venue apart for regional competitions.

The surface is artificial turf, a change from the natural grass that was worn down by decades of heavy use. The renovation that installed the pitch happened between 2013 and 2017, funded by the Possehl Foundation and the City of Lübeck. The capacity sits at 2,500 seats now, with roughly 1,500 covered. This is a reduction from the historical peak of 12,000, a figure that belongs to the past and is not relevant to the current matchday experience. The stadium hosts 1. FC Phönix Lübeck and LBV Phönix von 1903, but also sees the Lübeck Cougars and MTV Lübeck.

The ground retains its original name, derived from the bastion built between 1614 and 1618 that once stood nearby. It has not been renamed through the years. The address is Wallstraße 36, though some sources cite Possehlstraße 36, a minor discrepancy in the local records. The venue is owned by the Hansestadt Lübeck. It is a working ground, not a monument.
