The ground began as a gravel pit on the edge of what was then Stettin. Eleven years passed before the job was finished properly. On 5 October 1925 the completed ground opened with running tracks and stands for 15,000.
The war did not leave the site quietly. When the builders returned for the most recent rebuild, they turned up more than a thousand pieces of Second World War ordnance in the ground in 2020. That work finished in October 2022.
The first match played with the ground fully open, on 11 September 2022 against Lech Poznań in the ninth round of the Ekstraklasa, drew 20,257 — still the attendance record.
Two nights stand out from the international fixtures. Poland beat Norway 9–0 here in 1963. In 2005, against Albania, Maciej Żurawski scored the fastest goal in the history of the national side, 32 seconds in.
The women's Polish Cup final of the 2025/26 season is booked for this pitch in May 2026.
