BLNO (Norway) 2026/27

The Basketligaen Norge (BLNO) stands as the premier men's basketball competition in Norway, governed by the Norwegian Basketball Federation (NBBF). The modern professional iteration of the league began in 2000, succeeding the Hovedserien division that operated from 1974. Before that period, national championships relied on regional structures or cup formats. The league occupies the highest position in the Norwegian basketball pyramid.

The current season features ten clubs, including Ammerud, Asker Aliens, Baerum, Centrum Tigers, Froya Basket, and Fyllingen Basket. Teams engage in a triple round-robin regular season, playing each opponent three times for a total of 30 games. The eight highest-ranked teams progress to the playoffs, where quarterfinals are decided by best-of-three series, while the semifinals and finals follow a best-of-five format.

Financial and competitive movement between tiers exists through promotion and relegation. The team finishing tenth drops to the second-tier 1. divisjon. The ninth-place team plays a best-of-three playoff against the runner-up from the lower division, while the 1. divisjon winner secures automatic promotion.

Historical dominance has shifted over decades. Oppsal claimed eighteen consecutive titles during the Hovedserien era between 1974 and 1991. Asker Aliens followed with eight straight championships from 1992 to 1999. In the BLNO era, Asker Aliens remains the most successful side with six victories. Fyllingen BBK holds the current crown after winning their third consecutive title in the 2024–25 season. The BLNO operates separately from the Norwegian Cup, though both tournaments award the title of 'Norgesmester'.
