The FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup is a global championship for female players aged 17 and under. Organized by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), it serves as the premier world title for this age bracket. The tournament operates on a biennial schedule, alternating with other youth events to provide regular high-level competition. The competition features 16 national teams. Qualification is based on performance in continental championships held the year prior, specifically at the U16 level. FIBA Europe receives five spots, including the semi-finalists and fifth-place team of the U16 EuroBasket. FIBA Americas allocates four places to the semi-finalists of the U16 AmeriCup. FIBA Asia and FIBA Oceania share four spots among the semi-finalists of the U16 Asia Cup. FIBA Africa grants two spots to the finalists of the U16 AfroBasket, while the host nation receives one automatic place. The format consists of a group stage where teams are divided into four groups of four. Each team plays a round-robin within its group. Following the group stage, all 16 teams advance to a single-elimination knockout round, starting with the Round of 16, followed by quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final. Classification matches determine rankings from 9th to 16th place. The format expanded from 12 to 16 teams in 2014. The United States is the dominant force in the tournament's history, having won every edition from its inception in 2010 through 2026. As of the 2026 edition, the USA holds eight titles. Spain is the most successful non-American team, having reached the final five times but failing to win. Australia reached the final three times, winning the title in 2016, where they defeated Italy in the final. France and Canada have also reached the final, with France finishing as runner-up in 2010 and 2018, and Canada in 2024. The 2026 edition was held in Brno, Czech Republic.
