NBB (Brazil) 2026/27

The Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB) operates as the premier professional basketball league in Brazil. Established by the Liga Nacional de Basquete (LNB), it replaced fragmented national championships to create a decentralized model controlled by clubs rather than the traditional Confederação Brasileira de Basketball (CBB). This structure defines its identity as the official Brazilian Men's Basketball Championship, a status recognised by the CBB and FIBA.

The competition distinguishes itself through its club-led governance and centralized commercial rights management. Revenue sharing mechanisms contrast sharply with the CBB’s direct management of lower tiers or regional cups, positioning the NBB as a unique entity within the Brazilian sports landscape. Notable sponsorship arrangements involve partners such as Fiat and Caixa, supporting the league's operations.

The season format involves a double round-robin regular season where each team plays 34 games. The top 16 teams advance to the playoffs, which utilise best-of-five series for all rounds, including the initial Round of 16. This progression ensures a competitive final phase. The league also incorporates promotion and relegation rules: the Liga Ouro champion can apply for NBB entry subject to LNB approval, while the bottom two NBB teams face relegation.

Flamengo holds the record for the most titles won in the competition's history, claiming seven championships between 2009 and 2021. Franca currently stands as the champion for the 2022–26 period. The league's official website hosts further details regarding fixtures and standings. The 2024/2025 season features 18 teams competing for supremacy, reflecting the ongoing development of professional basketball in the country. The governance model continues to separate the NBB from other domestic tournaments, emphasizing the autonomy of the participating clubs in decision-making processes.
