Zenit Out of VTB Super Cup Final After Efes Loss
Zenit fell 100-76 to Anadolu Efes, their second group-stage defeat, ending final hopes and sending the St Petersburg club into the fifth-place match.
Zenit have no way through to the Super Cup final. The St Petersburg side lost 100-76 to Anadolu Efes of Istanbul in their second group match of the Unified League VTB Super Cup, a second defeat in the competition after going down 73-78 to UNICS Kazan on Thursday.
Zenit are now guaranteed third place in Group B, which sends them into the fifth-place match rather than the final.
Bruno Fernando, Anadolu Efes's Angolan centre, top-scored with 19 points and added eight rebounds. For Zenit, Nigerian point guard Ike Iroegbu led the way with 17 points.
The Super Cup continues on Friday with CSKA facing Lokomotiv-Kuban; a win puts the Moscow side through to the final. The final itself is set for Sunday, 20 September, at 19:00 Moscow time, with classification matches earlier the same day. All games are being played at the VTB Arena in Moscow.
