Hawks and Hornets Talk Buddy Hield, Dorian Finney-Smith Trade

Atlanta and Charlotte have been in and out of talks this month over a trade involving Buddy Hield of the Hawks and Dorian Finney-Smith of the Hornets, according to insider Jake Fisher.

The Hawks have spent the whole summer looking at deals that include Hield's $9.7m contract. Finney-Smith is owed $13.3m for the 2027/28 season, and that money is not guaranteed. It is not yet clear whether an agreement will be reached before training camps open.

Both players are 33. Hield split last season between the Warriors and the Hawks and averaged 7.6 points a game, shooting a career-worst 34.9% from three.

Finney-Smith, who has had ankle surgery, played only 37 games for Houston. He averaged 3.3 points in 16.8 minutes, also career lows, and hit 27% from beyond the arc.
