Enes Kanter Freedom hits back at Kevin Durant over WNBA remarks

Enes Kanter Freedom has criticised Kevin Durant after the Houston Rockets forward dismissed the political rows around the WNBA as "noise". Kanter Freedom, a former NBA centre, asked on social media: "Kevin Durant, since when has protecting women been politics?"

Durant spoke at the Rockets' media day. According to the report, he declined to call Kanter Freedom by name. The dispute concerns gender politics and the provocative campaigns run by Kanter Freedom and Royce White, both former team-mates of Durant's at Oklahoma City.

"It's all just noise. The WNBA is thriving. Look at what these women are doing. Look at how much money they have made over the last few years. Look at how visible their league has become. They have 4 or 5 top stars with signature deals from the biggest brands. These women are building their own brands themselves, they are businesswomen off the court. So all this politics that is being brought into sport now... I understand the motives of those who are trying to do it. But I, a person who cares only about the purity of the sport, couldn't care less about all of it. All I care about is that the league grows and moves forward. And that is exactly what is happening now," Durant said.

Kanter Freedom, who also played for the Thunder, answered at length. He said there is an ideology whose supporters want biological men admitted to women's showers, changing rooms and toilets, and that he is ready to "put his life on the line" to oppose it and protect future generations.

"And somehow I am the villain? Shame on you! This is not politics. It is a matter of common sense, morality and the willingness to stand up for what is right. But what else could you expect from a man who turned his back on Oklahoma for a championship title?" Kanter Freedom wrote.
