Dusty May Wants Mavericks to Play at High Pace
In his first season as Dallas head coach, May says the roster's size and athleticism suit an up-tempo, transition-heavy style built around rebounding.
Dusty May has told his players to push the pace in his first season as Dallas Mavericks head coach.
The 49-year-old said the roster's size, length, youth and energy suit a running style, and that early practices back up the plan.
"All of this naturally lends itself to playing in transition. Right now in practice the guys are doing well in fast-break offence. On top of that, we need to dominate the boards," said May.
Rebounding sits alongside pace as the other pillar of his approach. May takes charge of the Mavericks for the 2026 NBA season, his first at this level after building his reputation in college basketball.
