Cavaliers' Koby Altman calls summer a resounding success

Cleveland president Koby Altman called the Cavaliers' summer "a resounding success" and said the front office had looked at trading for Jaylen Brown or Giannis Antetokounmpo before deciding the price was too high.

"We are built for a long, reliable competitive window, regardless of a one-off result," Altman said. "Many wrongly believe that some specific move meant LeBron coming. But we explored every option. We are as active an organisation as it gets. We assessed the value of the assets. To land a player of the calibre of Jaylen Brown or Giannis Antetokounmpo, you have to give up too much. Is that the best option for our future?"

He then answered his own question about the off-season as a whole. "If you look at it in perspective, was this off-season a success? Yes, it was a resounding success. We will be able to get better, to have more financial flexibility, a stable roster. All of this leads me to a positive answer."

The Cavaliers signed Peyton Watson and Mario Hezonja, whom head coach Kenny Atkinson has called the best player in Europe over the past 5 years. They also acquired guard Melik Thomas in the draft, and he stood out in the Summer League. The club extended its arrangement with James Harden as well.

If Altman's account holds, Cleveland will open the season with the roster largely as it stands and its financial flexibility intact.
