Mitch Johnson on Wembanyama's Playmaking Growth
Spurs coach Mitch Johnson says Victor Wembanyama must expand beyond scoring, creating for teammates and controlling games entering his fourth NBA season.
The San Antonio head coach was asked about Wembanyama's offensive role for the year ahead.
"Offensively, he needs to keep controlling the game and influencing how it plays out. Not just scoring, but creating opportunities for his teammates, forcing the defence to make decisions and taking advantage of the opportunities that present themselves to him. And I think he should work on tying all of that together over the course of a whole game, almost conducting the game the way the best players in the league do, and the way Victor himself already can at times. I think that's one of the areas where he still has room to grow," said Johnson.
Wembanyama enters the season as San Antonio's focal point after three years in the league, and Johnson's comments point to playmaking as the next stage in his development rather than raw scoring output.
