Hornets Waive Rob Dillingham
Charlotte cut the 2024 No. 8 pick just two days after acquiring him from Chicago, in what looks like a salary-dumping move rather than a basketball decision.
Charlotte have waived Rob Dillingham, two days after trading for the guard, according to Shams Charania.
The Hornets sent Buddy Hield and cash to Chicago for Dillingham. By all accounts the move was made purely to shed salary, not to add a rotation piece.
Dillingham, 21, went 8th overall in the 2024 draft out of Kentucky and started his career at Minnesota. The Timberwolves had hoped he would settle into a rotation role on a cheap rookie deal, but playing time stayed limited through his debut season: 4.5 points and 2 assists in 10.5 minutes a game, on 44.1% shooting and 33.8% from three.
Minnesota moved him to Chicago midway through his second season as part of the deal that brought back Ayo Dosunmu. Across 65 games in 2025/26 his numbers were 6.3 points and 2.2 assists in 14.9 minutes, with his shooting percentages falling to 39.6% overall and 31.6% from deep.
