About the player
Gemma Bonner joined Leeds United's youth system at the age of eight and worked her way through to the senior side, making 59 league appearances and winning the FA Women's Premier League Cup in 2010. A move to Chelsea followed in 2011, and she reached the 2012 FA Women's Cup final with the club, though she missed her penalty in the shootout.
Her career took off at Liverpool, where she captained the side to back-to-back FA Women's Super League titles in 2013 and 2014. She left for Manchester City in 2018, then joined Racing Louisville in 2021, where she was named captain for the 2022 season.
Bonner returned to Liverpool in 2023 and became the club's all-time record appearance holder, passing through 177 appearances across nine seasons there. In August 2026 she signed for Denver Summit FC through the end of the season.
At international level, Bonner won 12 caps for England between 2013 and 2019, scoring once, against Finland at the 2014 Cyprus Cup. She was named in the England squad for Euro 2013 and was part of the side that won the SheBelieves Cup in 2019.
