About the player
Joško Gvardiol started out at NK Trešnjevka before moving into the Dinamo Zagreb academy. He made his senior debut for Dinamo in October 2019 and went on to win two league titles and the Croatian Cup there. RB Leipzig paid €21 million for him in August 2020, but immediately sent him back to Zagreb on loan for a season before he actually moved to Germany in the summer of 2021.
Manchester City signed him from Leipzig on 5 August 2023 for a fixed €90 million, with no add-ons attached to the deal, and he put pen to paper on a five-year contract.
With Croatia, Gvardiol has become a regular at major tournaments, appearing at Euro 2020, the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024. Croatia took bronze at the 2022 World Cup, and Gvardiol scored in the third-place match against Morocco. He has continued to feature in Croatia's qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, and has earned 52 caps and scored four goals for the national side.
