About the player
Michael Oberwinkler's football education began not in a big city academy but at SV Malta, before he moved through the regional ranks with ASKÖ Gmünd, a brief spell at Villacher SV, and a return to Gmünd's second and first teams.
From there Oberwinkler moved on to SPG Wels, also known as Hertha Wels, before a free transfer took him to SK Vorwärts Steyr in the summer of 2024. That stint ended in relegation from the Regionalliga at the close of the 2024/25 season, and the midfielder moved again, joining Union Gurten in July 2025. His time there was short: in January 2026 he switched to SKU Amstetten, once more on a free transfer.
Across these years, free transfers have been the norm rather than the exception for Oberwinkler. He is generally deployed on the right side of midfield.
