About the player
Santiago Mera came through the youth ranks at Once Caldas, joining the club in 2022 after arriving from the Puerto Tejada region, and was promoted to the first team the same year. He made his senior debut for Once Caldas in July 2022. In the second half of the 2024 season, the midfielder went out on loan to Tigres FC in Colombian Primera B before returning to Once Caldas at the end of the year.
Mera left Once Caldas as a free agent in April 2026, signing with Boyacá Chicó until the end of 2027. The move came with no transfer fee involved. At his new club he has already found the net against Once Caldas, his former side, in the league, as well as scoring in the Copa Colombia against Millonarios.
The Santander de Quilichao-born player has not featured for Colombia at senior or youth international level so far.
