Amagaju

Nyamagabe's club dates to 1935, and the ninety years since have earned it a place among the oldest sides in Rwanda — marked with anniversary celebrations in January 2025. The trophy count often attached to the club's name does not hold up: the Peace Cup wins credited to 2017, 2018 and 2019 belong instead to APR FC, Mukura Victory Sports and AS Kigali respectively. What actually happened in 2018 was a quarter-final run, built on a 2-0 win over Mukura Victory Sports in the Round of 16 before APR FC ended it.

The more recent story is about getting back to the top flight. Amagaju finished runners-up in the Second Division in the 2022/23 season, a campaign that turned on a 1-0 win over Étoile de l'Est — the very club that took the title above them and went up alongside them. That match set the tone for a rivalry built purely on promotion arithmetic. The other derby is geographic and sharper: Mukura Victory Sports, based just down the road in Huye, meet Amagaju in what is called the Southern Derby, and the most recent instalment, in January 2024, went the visitors' way, 3-2.

Player turnover has followed the pattern of a selling club. Rayon Sports have taken two of Amagaju's own in successive years — Abdoul Rahman Rukundo for Rwf 20 million in June 2024, then vice-captain Abdel Matumona Wakonda in the summer of 2025. Up front, Destin Malanda Exaucé left for Mukura Victory Sports in January 2025 and came back to Nyagisenyi Stadium a year later. Eduard Ndayishimiye supplied the goal that beat APR FC in 2025.
