Nothing sharpens Kuwait's under-23 side quite like a fixture against Iraq. The senior team took silver at the Asian Games in 1982 and 1998 and bronze in 1986 and 1994 — medals that sit in Kuwait's football history rather than in the under-23 side's own record, since those Games predated the current age-restricted format.
The Kuwait Football Association, founded in 1952, oversees the team, which trades under the nickname Al-Azraq, the Blue One, for the shirts, shorts and white socks it plays in.
Much of the squad has come through Al-Qadsia's academy, among them Fahad Al-Azmi.
