Liverpool

Two men started it as a junior section of the local YMCA basketball team. Jimmy Rogers and Tim Martyn-Jones wanted their young players to play a "flowing, attacking style", and the name they chose, Atac, said so. The club became independent in 1973 and moved to Riversdale College, which made it Riversdale Atac. In 1991 it went to Everton Park Sports Centre to widen its appeal and became Liverpool Atac. Since 2000 it has been plain Liverpool.

The club's one season in the top flight, NBL Division 1 in 1996/97, ended in 13th place with six wins and 20 defeats. Relegation followed because senior players retired.

In 2007 Everton Football Club backed a professional franchise in the British Basketball League (BBL), the Everton Tigers, later the Mersey Tigers. Players left Liverpool for it. The club finished bottom of NBL Division 2 in 2006/07 and dropped again in 2007/08, a second successive relegation, down to Division 3. The Tigers folded in 2013. Liverpool then climbed back: Division 4 (North) champions in 2014, Division 3 (North) champions in 2015.

Jack Hudson, the club captain, was named MVP of the Division 3 playoff final in 2015. In 2019 Liverpool won the NBL Division 2 title. David Ulph, who has also played for Manchester Giants in the BBL, scored 20 points and took 13 rebounds in that championship win. Delme Herriman, a former England international, has coached the Division 2 men since 2016 and directs the basketball academy at Archbishop Beck Catholic Sports College. The Sefton Stars are the rivals, and games against them are the Merseyside derby.

Liverpool won the Division 3 North West Conference in 2024. The club still plays in red, black and white, and the junior players who began as Atac's YMCA section have a successor in that academy.
