Merano/Meran

Merano sits in South Tyrol. Sport Club Meran Handball, known locally as the Black Devils, has carried that identity since 1973.

The club's high point came in the 2004-05 season, when it won the Serie A Gold. The man at the centre of that run was Jürgen Prantner, who came through the club across three separate stints between 1988 and 2003 as a player, then stayed on as head coach and led the team to that 2005 title. He remains Meran's record goalscorer and only stepped down from the bench in 2025: Leo went on to become a fixture for the Italian national team, while Max moved on to Swiss side Pfadi Winterthur after five seasons in black and white.

Derby weekends here mean SSV Brixen, with Bolzano's SSV Bozen supplying the other side of the regional rivalry. Between those matches the current group is built around goalkeeper Andrea Colleluori, in since 2022, with Andreas Stricker at line and Samuel Gerstgrasser running things from centre back.
