Pors Grenland

For nine years the club that plays out of Porsgrunn wasn't called Pors at all. It started life in 1905 as Lyn, and only in 1914, once another team had claimed that name for itself, did the Porsgrunn side become IF Pors — the name that has stuck through everything since, including a 2005 split that hived the football section off into its own entity, Pors Grenland Fotball.

The record does not have a top-flight title in it, nor a cup won. The closest the club came to the summit was 1948–49 in Hovedserien, where it finished bottom of its group with one win from fourteen matches, and again in 1970, when a run of three wins and a single draw across the season left it last in the 1. divisjon table. What Pors has instead is a habit of climbing back out of the lower divisions: a Avdeling 2 title in 2015 and, eight years later, Avdeling 4 in 2023, each one earning promotion to 2. divisjon.

Pors Stadion holds 7,000, blue running through the shirt and socks that give the team its nickname, De 11 Blå. Twice a season, more or less, that blue meets the colours of IF Urædd across town, and the Porsgrunnderby is the fixture the city actually turns out for, ahead of anything in the league table. Between 1994 and 2009 the club also ran a cooperation agreement with Odd Grenland under the banner Grenland Fotball, a arrangement it eventually stepped away from to stand on its own again.

Jan Halvor Halvorsen is the name Pors still measures itself against. He came through at the club before moving on to Brann, then Hertha Berlin, then Rosenborg, and along the way won five caps for Norway — a path out of Porsgrunn that few who have worn the blue shirt have matched.
