SC Freiburg Women

Frauen-Bundesliga South in 2010/11, after an earlier spell in the top flight in 1998/99 ended in relegation after a single season. The department did not begin there: a women's team formed in 1975 when players from SpVgg Wiehre 04 joined the club, folded in 1985, and only returned on 1 July 1991.

In 2018/19 they lost 0–1 to VfL Wolfsburg; in 2022/23 the same opponent beat them 4–1, in front of 44,808 spectators, a record crowd for the fixture. Both finals sit either side of a squad that has become a supply line for the rest of the Bundesliga: Giulia Gwinn, Klara Bühl and Lina Magull all left for Bayern Munich, Sara Däbritz moved on to Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon. The name still tied to the club is Hasret Kayikçi, who holds the appearance record with 195 matches and scored 61 goals along the way.

Freiburg's men and women share the nickname Breisgau-Brasilianer, a label that dates back to Volker Finke's teams of the 1990s.

Matches are played at the Dreisamstadion, which holds 24,000 for league football and has carried two other names, Schwarzwald-Stadion and Badenova-Stadion, across its history in Freiburg im Breisgau.
