SSV Brixen Women

The handball section grew out of the wider SSV Brixen sports society, set up in 1970 by Ralf Dejaco, and later took on the name "Südtirol" to speak for South Tyrolean handball beyond the town itself. Le Biancoverdi , as they're known for their white and green, have built their identity as much around Bolzano as around any trophy: the games against SSV Bozen carry the weight of the Südtirol Derby.

Monika Prünster has kept goal for the club while also captaining the Italian national team, and Anika Niederwieser came up through Brixen's youth ranks before becoming a fixture for the national side, earning the Italian Handball Woman of the Year award in 2019. Behind the bench, Hubert Nössing has been the coach most associated with the club's recent revival.

Home games are played in front of roughly 2,000 people at the Raiffeisen Arena, and the town of Brixen, tucked in the mountains of South Tyrol, close to the team it sends out onto it.
