Basketball Academy "Zenit"

The Basketball Academy 'Zenit' sits on Krestovsky Island in Saint Petersburg, a quiet corner of the Petrogradsky District. It is not the main arena where fans gather for the big European matches, but it holds its own character. The building is part of the historic Zenit Sports Base, which was originally constructed in 1968 and underwent significant reconstruction in 2002. While the physical structure dates back to 1968, the Basketball Academy as a specific entity was established in 2019 as a youth development project for the Zenit basketball club.

Inside, the space is defined by its playing surface. The main hall features a natural wood parquet floor made of Canadian maple, manufactured by CONNOR SPORTS (USA), which is the standard for professional venues. The seating capacity of the hall is 500 spectators, as confirmed by the Federation of Basketball of Saint Petersburg and fan reports. The venue is part of a larger complex that also includes the 'Lokosfinks' sports center and is located near the Park Krestovsky Hotel.

It is important to distinguish this academy from the main professional home arena of BC Zenit Saint Petersburg, which is the KSK 'Arena' (formerly Sibur Arena) located at Football Alley, 8 on Krestovsky Island. The Arena has a capacity of 7,120 and was renamed from Sibur Arena in 2023. The Academy at Severnaya Doroza has not undergone sponsorship-related name changes distinct from its association with the Zenit club; it has consistently been known as the Basketball Academy 'Zenit'. The official website for the club and academy is bc-zenit.com.

The atmosphere is focused on development rather than spectacle, a place where young players learn the game before moving to the larger stage. The facility serves as a training ground and hosts matches for the club's youth teams, providing a foundation for the future of the sport in the city.
