BBA Arena
Manama, Bahrain
Formerly: Zain Basketball Arena, Zain Arena
The BBA Arena sits in the Um Al Hassam district of Manama. Its address is Mahooz Avenue, but the building itself does not draw the eye.
The arena exists primarily to serve Manama Club, the most decorated team in Bahraini basketball history. The club has played here for years, long before the naming rights were sold to Zain, which rebranded the venue as the Zain Basketball Arena. The original name, BBA Arena, references the Bahrain Basketball Association, the body that owns and operates the facility. The association maintains its headquarters nearby at Building 25, Block 337, a detail that suggests the arena is more administrative hub than entertainment centre.
Inside, the floor is wooden parquet, meeting FIBA standards for a court measuring 28 by 15 metres. The seating holds 2,000 spectators. The arena hosts the Bahraini Premier League and the West Asia Super League, and has staged FIBA Asia Cup qualification matches and the Gulf U16 Basketball Championship.
The arena predates the Zain sponsorship, which began around 2007, though it was already in use by 2018. No records indicate when it was first constructed or by whom. There is no standalone website for the venue itself; the official portal belongs to the association.
The district around it includes the Tropicana Hotel and the Um Al Hassam Sports & Cultural Club. It is a basketball hall in Manama, and that is its entire identity.
