Blackhouse Lane

Great Cornard, United Kingdom

Blackhouse Lane sits quietly in Great Cornard, Suffolk, a village where the football club has called it home since 1982. Before that, Cornard United played at the Recreation Ground, and for a single season in 1983–84, they used the changing rooms at Great Cornard Upper School. The ground has never carried a sponsor’s name, though the occasional visitor blog still spells it "Blackhorse Lane." The pavilion, built with no recorded architect, has seen renovations paid for by the Dynamos Committee and the local parish council.

There is 2,000 space here, of which 250 are seats in a single all-seater stand. The surface is natural grass. The highest turnout was 400 people for a pre-season friendly against West Ham United in 2001–02; some accounts say over 450, but the club’s own ledger lists 400.

On the pitch, Cornard United have won the Suffolk Senior Cup once, in 1988–89, beating Sudbury Wanderers, and lost a final in 2018–19 to Achilles by four goals to three. Their FA Cup runs have been brief and familiar: First Qualifying Round appearances in 1993–94, 1994–95, 2004–05, 2008–09, and 2026–27. In 2008–09 they saw off Whitton United and Ipswich Wanderers after replays before a 5–0 defeat to Leiston ended their run. No concerts or major events have been staged here; the ground is for football, and nothing else.

Cornard United F.C. plays its home matches on this patch of Suffolk earth.
