BMW Park
Munich, Germany
BMW Park stands in the Sendling-Westpark district. It is not a football stadium. Built for the 1972 Summer Olympics, it was originally the Olympic Basketball Hall. It has lived through name changes, but the glass floor is what makes it different. There is a full LED glass floor underfoot. It is the first of its kind in professional sport, with millions of light-emitting diodes beneath two layers of safety glass. The court can display real-time data and animations. It is not natural grass.
FC Bayern Munich Basketball plays there. The capacity is 6,500 for games, a size that keeps things close for the players. It also hosted the volleyball team WWK Volleys Herrsching. The architect was Georg Flinkerbusch.
The Allianz Arena sits elsewhere, in Fröttmaning, and is a different beast entirely.
