CareFirst Arena
Washington, D.C., United States
Formerly: Entertainment and Sports Arena
CareFirst Arena sits on the St. Elizabeths East Campus in the Congress Heights neighbourhood. The building itself is a modern presence.
The Washington Mystics moved in after winning their first championship, a fact that still carries weight for the local community. They played key games on this court instead of the downtown arena. The Capital City Go-Go also makes their base here, using the same practice facilities as the Washington Wizards.
The venue opened in 2018, replacing the older Entertainment and Sports Arena moniker with the current sponsor name. Events like the PFL and wrestling shows fill the space when there is no basketball, but the primary focus remains the local teams.
The arena is owned by the District of Columbia and managed by Events DC. The Mystics’ title run extended their unbeaten run in terms of legacy, but the ground itself is still finding its place in the wider sports landscape.
