Dragão Arena
Porto, Portugal
Formerly: Dragão Caixa
Inside, the space is defined by its purpose. The surface is a polished wooden parquet, typical for the indoor sports that fill the hall. It is a versatile space, hosting basketball, handball, volleyball, futsal, and roller hockey for the multi-sport section of FC Porto . The capacity is 2,179.
The arena replaced the older Pavilhão Américo de Sá, which was demolished in January 2001 when the football stadium complex began. Construction of this modern venue took place between 2007 and 2009, with a total cost of approximately 12 million euros. It was designed by architects Manuel Salgado, Jorge Estriga, Joana Pinheiro, and Inês Cruz. The arena was inaugurated on April 23, 2009.
The original name, Dragão Caixa, came from a 10-year naming rights partnership with the Portuguese bank. This sponsorship ended in June 2019, after which the venue was renamed Arena Dragão (or Dragão Arena ). The official address is Via Futebol Clube do Porto, 4350-415 Porto, Portugal. It hosts domestic league games and playoffs, though no specific attendance record or international finals are confirmed in the available sources.
