Gimnasio Olímpico Juan de la Barrera
Mexico City, Mexico
The arena at 2333 Avenida División del Norte is not a football ground, so its physical character is shaped by what happens inside it rather than by a club's history. The official capacity is 5,242 spectators, a size that keeps the venue from feeling cavernous on quiet nights and from being packed on busy ones.
It has kept its name since the start: Gimnasio Olímpico Juan de la Barrera, after the fencer who took bronze in Paris. The name has not changed and there are no former titles to sort through. Since the Games, the floor has hosted basketball, concerts and Lucha Libre. The Ramones played here on July 2, 1993, and the wrestlers returned for a notable match on January 22, 1993, when El Hijo del Santo and Eddie Guerrero faced Espectro Jr. and Jerry Estada. The space is multi-surface, so the lines shift and the feel of the crowd changes with the event.
Today the venue belongs to the Instituto de Deportes de la Ciudad de México and carries the website indeporte.cdmx.gob.mx. Ángeles de la Ciudad de México (CIBACOPA) have been active since 2023, and Diablos Rojos del México (LNBP) since 2024.
