For two seasons KA Akureyri had no home.
The answer came in the spring of 2022, when artificial turf was laid over a surface that had been in service since the ground opened in 1953.
The name is much younger than the ground beneath it. Until 2018 this was Akureyrarvöllur — simply the Akureyri ground, the municipal pitch of a municipal town, and the city still owns it. That year a sponsorship agreement with Greifinn, the restaurant standing opposite, turned it into Greifavöllurinn .
What that leaves is a venue defined less by its architecture than by its interruption.
