Construction carried out by Rönesans Holding left a mark on the exterior, visible in the raw structure that stood for years before the pitch was laid. The new stadium sits on the exact site of the previous Göztepe Stadium, which had been renamed Gürsel Aksel Stadı in 1978 in honour of the club's legendary captain and was demolished in 2016.

Inside, the design is functional rather than decorative. The roof is open at the sides, meaning the wind from the Aegean Sea can sweep through the bowl and ruin any passing game if the players are not paying attention. The floodlights are mounted on the perimeter, casting a flat light over the pitch without the towering pylons found at older grounds.

This venue has hosted the Ziraat Turkish Cup Finals, bringing in teams from across the country. The stadium has also hosted a friendly match between the Turkey national team and Lithuania, proving it can handle the scale of international fixtures.

The official name of the complex is Gürsel Aksel Sports and Healthy Life Center, a long title that suggests the ambition behind the project. The club president, Mehmet Sepil, a civil engineer, was involved in the design, which explains the practical layout of the facilities. The ground is located in the Üçkuyular neighborhood of the Konak district, far from the historic centre of İzmir, but it has become a destination for football fans who come to see Göztepe S.K. play. The capacity has grown since opening, starting at 19,713 and now standing at 23,376, allowing more voices to fill the space.
