Hoops Dome / Cebu Coliseum
Cebu City, Philippines
Formerly: New Cebu Coliseum
The Cebu Coliseum has seen the floor change underneath it more than once. The original arena opened in 1962, hosting a boxing match between Gabriel Elorde and Terou Kosaka for its debut. For decades it served as the home of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI). The professional era arrived in 1998 with the Cebu Gems of the Metropolitan Basketball Association, who played their home games there until 2002.
The structure underwent a significant transformation in the early 2000s, emerging with the name New Cebu Coliseum. That identity lasted until the latest overhaul began in early 2025. The University of Cebu commissioned a complete rebuild to modernise the facility. Workers replaced the old surface with a two-layer Canadian maple hardwood court. They installed sixteen heavy-duty air-conditioning units and twin industrial ceiling fans, alongside heat-resistant roofing panels for seismic resilience.
The most visible change is the four-sided LED jumbotron suspended above the court. The retractable seating was also updated, allowing capacity to shift from 5,000 for basketball to 8,000 for concerts. The venue reopened in September 2025, and the immediate buzz is that the Philippine Basketball Association might return for regular games. It is already hosting the Cebu Greats and Cebu Classics in the Metropolitan Basketball Player League.
The building sits at Sanciangko Street in downtown Cebu City. The hardwood is new, and the fans are running.
