HUK-COBURG arena

Coburg, Germany

The HUK-COBURG Arena sits in the northern industrial district of Lauterer Höhe. It opened in 2011, replacing a previous hall on the site.

The floor is synthetic, a PVC covering laid over parquet, built for the quick cuts of handball and the heavy boots of basketball. The venue was a Public-Private Partnership, a project carried out by Sport StadiaNet GmbH from Düsseldorf while asp Architekten Stuttgart designed the structure.

The biggest game played here was a German women’s national team match against Belarus, where 1,837 people watched the hosts win. The attendance record is 3,500, set in 2013 during a league fixture against DJK Rimpar Wölfe. It is a small number for a big city, but Coburg is not a big city.
