Karbala International Stadium

The stands are not deep, and the crowd sits close to the action. There are no luxury boxes visible from the main stand, just rows of concrete and steel. The advertising hoardings run along the perimeter, separating the spectators from the touchline. The colours of the banners are muted, mostly white and grey, with occasional splashes of red and blue. The atmosphere is quiet until the match begins, then it swells. The fans are a mix of ages, men and boys, some wearing traditional robes, others in casual shirts. They watch intently, their faces turned towards the centre circle.

The stadium has hosted the Iraqi national team and regional tournaments like the WAFF Championship. The pitch has seen the top clubs in the country, including Karbalaa FC and visitors from abroad. It is a place where the game is played under a clear sky, with the heat rising from the concrete in the summer and the cool air settling in the winter. The structure is functional, built for sport, with no unnecessary ornamentation. The stands are full when the local team plays, and the noise carries across the field.
