Kongsberghallen

Kongsberghallen sits under a roof that has seen the wind come off the hills of Viken for longer than most of its regular visitors have been alive. The building covers ten thousand five hundred square meters of concrete and steel, a footprint that swallows the noise of a town without letting it escape.

What makes the place distinct is not the capacity—figures for that sit at four and a half thousand on one side and five and a half on the other, a gap that reflects the ongoing expansion project—but the quiet utility of the design. It is a multi-purpose arena, which means the ice comes out for Kongsberg IF, and the hardwood follows for the Kongsberg Miners. You can watch a game or you can book the courts for basketball or tennis, and the bowling lanes remain downstairs regardless of who is playing above.

The structure does not pretend to be a temple of sport; it is a hall first and a stadium second. It hosts FIBA competitions when the schedule allows, but more often it holds commercial events: conferences, exhibitions, parties, and flea markets that turn the space into a market hall for a day. The tribune expansion, currently underway as of 2026, is changing the sightlines, but the bones of the building remain the same.

The foundation operates the facility, keeping the lights on and the doors open for everything from judo classes to dog shows. There is no grand entrance or turnstile that signals a match day; the players walk in the same door as the traders setting up for a Saturday fair. The arena is unassuming, but it holds the centre of the community’s activity when the snow falls hard on Numedalsveien.
