Kurtdereli Spor Salonu: Stadium in Balıkesir

Kurtdereli Spor Salonu sits in the Altıeylül district of Balıkesir, tucked off Menekşe Sokak. A new modern facility is planned to replace the existing structure, but for now, the old parquet floor remains.

The exact year the doors first opened is not clear. Turkish and Russian sources point to 1963, while local press suggests 1969. The discrepancy may stem from confusion with the adjacent Olympic swimming pool, which opened on August 6, 1969. The hall itself is managed by the Balıkesir Youth and Sports Provincial Directorate.

Inside, the hardwood surface is standard for basketball, but the venue hosts more than just games. Taekwondo and boxing tournaments find a home here. The seating capacity is reported as 1,500.

Teams come and go. Current home teams include Balıkesir Büyükşehir Belediyespor in the Turkish Basketball League and Balıkesir DSİ Spor in the Women's Volleyball 2nd League. Best Balıkesir B.K., formerly known as Pota'nın Yıldızları, used this arena as their home ground during the 2016-17 season when they played in the Turkish Basketball Super League.
