Marikina Sports Center

Marikina Sports Center sits at the corner of Sumulong Highway and Shoe Avenue, a location defined as much by the traffic as by the architecture. Outside the perimeter, the street is lined with the city’s distinctive green jeepneys, creating a constant hum that blends with the game inside. The complex itself is a mix of eras: a long, white concrete stand stretches along the road like a warehouse, while the main grandstand rises with blue and green panels, catching the light differently depending on the time of day.

Since turning over to the local government in 1995, the facility has been a home for more than just football. The basketball court inside the Indoor Gymnasium, with its polished wooden floor and bright blue railings, hosts the Marikina Shoemasters, a team that has played there since the 2022–2023 season. They are not the only ones; the Marikina Lady Shoemasters volleyball team also plays out of the complex, using the same central hub for their matches. The main stadium, with its 15,000 seats and natural grass pitch, was once the ground for JPV Marikina F.C., a football club that played in the Philippines Football League before leaving in 2018.

What makes the place distinct is its dual nature. The public athletics track, which runs around the football pitch, is open for a small fee, meaning runners share the same air as fans waiting for kickoff. The space also hosts events that have nothing to do with the scoreline. The annual Year-End Concert and Fireworks Display draws crowds far larger than the stadium can hold, turning the entire complex into a city-wide gathering. While other venues focus on a single sport, this ground remains a community center first, a stadium second.
