Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium

The Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium sits on Ogui Road in Enugu, a city that has watched its central ground change with the decades. Built in 1959 as a facility for the Nigerian Railway Corporation, it was rebuilt for the 1986 inauguration by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation. The reconstruction gave the venue its current form, but the most visible alteration came later, when the natural grass was switched to artificial turf for the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

The ground has been renamed since then, eventually bearing the name of Nnamdi Azikiwe, Nigeria's first president.

Enugu Rangers, known locally as Rangers International Football Club, have called it home for decades. The pitch has hosted the heavyweights of continental football, including the 2000 African Cup Winners' Cup Final. In recent years, the capacity of 22,000 has been exceeded; the highest recorded attendance was 44,000 for a match between the home side and Enyimba FC, when overflow crowds pushed numbers well beyond the seated capacity. The venue also acknowledges the wider culture of the region, hosting the Phyno Fest concert in November 2017.
