NRG Stadium

NRG Stadium has shared this patch of land with Houston since August 2002. It became the first venue in the National Football League to feature a retractable fabric roof.

The playing field itself has seen the most change. A natural grass pitch was laid for the tournament, a temporary measure that distinguishes this period from the years of synthetic turf. The capacity, adjusted for the international fixtures, is 68,777. Before that adjustment, the figure had settled at 72,220 after a reconfiguration in 2018.

The stadium has hosted two Super Bowls, the first in 2004 and the second in 2017. The latter match drew the highest ever crowd for a football game at the venue: 71,795. The site also serves as the home for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, a tradition that began in 2003. The number was set on March 22, 2026, drawing 80,203 spectators. The venue was originally known as Reliant Stadium, a name it retained until 2014. It will revert to that title in August 2026.
