Pala Palumbo
Salerno, Italy
The ground inside the **Pala Palumbo** is not a pitch, but a wooden parquet court that has sat in the Torrione Alto district of Salerno. The building itself is a repurposed military barracks, the Caserma D’Avossa.
The arena sits quietly near the city centre, using a capacity of 500 to keep the noise contained within the walls. It is not a grand cathedral like St Peter’s Basilica, but a functional room where the PDO Handball Team Salerno hosts their matches. The wooden floor has been walked on by Italian national squad players during friendlies and qualifiers, and it has seen the intensity of the European Universities Games.
The venue has hosted everything from regional karate championships to the final stages of the Italian Cup, yet it remains a working space rather than a monument. For the players, it is simply a place to compete.
