The PalaEnergica Paolo Ferraris sits in Casale Monferrato, but its place in the city’s life does not follow a straight line. The building opened in September 1996, named after a local politician who died that same year, and it has lived through two distinct chapters since then. The first was a quiet period of local sport; the second arrived in 2021 when a branding deal brought the name of an electric motorcycle manufacturer onto the facade. The building was expanded in 2011 so that it could host the top flight of Italian basketball.
Inside, the wooden parquet floor takes the place of grass or concrete, a surface that changes the way the game is played.
The ground has hosted the Bertram Derthona basketball team from Tortona for four seasons, a link forged by necessity rather than geography.
The building does not announce itself. It waits for the crowd to arrive.
