Salla e Sporteve Minatori

Salla e Sporteve Minatori is an indoor hall where the air still carries the weight of Mitrovica’s mining past. It opened in 1984, when the city was part of Yugoslavia, and the name has never changed. Minatori means miners, a direct nod to the Trepça Mines that shaped the town’s life. The building sits on Rruga Palestra Minatori, though the exact district within the city is not clearly defined in sources.

For three decades it stood largely as it was built, until a renovation began in September 2013. That work, funded by €1.1 million from local governments and the European Union, finished by 2016 and brought a new wooden parquet floor. The upgrade meant the space could now host basketball, handball, volleyball, and futsal under one roof. Tenants include KB Trepça, KH Trepça, KV Trepça, and FC Trepça, all sharing the same home ground since that rebuild.

Crowd numbers tell a different story depending on when you ask. Reports from 2016 cited 1,500 seats, while figures between 2019 and 2024 ranged from 2,500 to 3,500 spectators. The official capacity is listed as 4,500, a number that aligns more closely with a further planned upgrade involving 680 telescopic seats. That project, valued at €400,000, was underway as of 2024–2025, suggesting the higher figure represents a future maximum rather than a current reality.

The venue is owned by the Mitrovica Municipality. No architect or construction company is recorded for the original build. What remains is the hall itself: a functional space where sport and history overlap, held together by municipal funding and the steady presence of local teams who have played here for years.
