Šiauliai Arena

Šiauliai, Lithuania

On the map

The ground is not what you expect from a football stadium. Šiauliai Arena is an indoor venue that has been fitted out for the rectangle.

The turf is synthetic, a surface that lasts through the freeze but lacks the give of natural grass.

Football is not its main task. The arena holds basketball matches and concerts, with a capacity that shifts depending on where the stage is put. When the team plays here, they are used to a different kind of noise, one that bounces off the roof rather than rolling over the terraces. The place has weathered the storm of years, but it remains a compromise between two sports.
