Sportcentrum SLUNETA

Sportcentrum SLUNETA sits in the Klíše district of Ústí nad Labem. It is a hall, built to host events that did not require the vast footprint of an outdoor stadium. The structure is unassuming, but it has survived decades of economic shifts, unlike the fragile ambitions of many modern complexes.

It opened its doors in 1974, though construction had dragged on from 1972, a common delay for post-war infrastructure. Originally known as Sportovní hala TJ Chemička Ústí nad Labem, the name reflects its chemical industry roots before the SLUNETA company purchased the facility in October 2008. That acquisition marked a shift from municipal neglect to private revitalization. The wooden parquet floor, standard for indoor basketball and volleyball, has seen decades of activity, hosting everything from local matches to international competitions.

The capacity is 1,600, a number that feels appropriate for a venue that hosts the WDSF Open Standard Senior III Dance Competition or the 47th Grand Prix Boxing Tournament. It is not a sell-out crowd for a Champions League match, but a tight-knit presence for regional events. The addition of SLUNETA 2 in March 2023 after a three-year build shows a commitment to keeping the facility relevant, even if the original hall retains its character.

Fans of FK Ústí nad Labem do not come here; they go to the Městský stadion. But for those who follow SLUNETA Ústí nad Labem (basketball), SK Volejbal Ústí nad Labem (volleyball), and Florbál Ústí nad Labem (floorball), this is the home ground. It lacks the glamour of a premier league arena, but it offers something else: continuity. The facility has been here since the Cold War era and remains, updated but intact, a testament to the town’s resilience rather than its sporting glory.
