Stadion Kapten I Wayan Dipta sits in the quiet town of Buruan, just outside Gianyar. The place is unlikely to be confused with any other football ground.

The stadium is the home of Bali United, but the building itself feels older than the club’s current era. The original complex was built in 1977, and the running track is the physical proof of that time. The modern structure opened in 2003, but the 2023 renovations for the FIFA U-20 World Cup changed the character of the place. The capacity was cut to 18,000 to meet safety standards, a decision that stripped away the old chaos. The grass is now a hybrid surface, stitched together to survive the tropical weather.

On matchdays, the atmosphere is unusual.

The ground has hosted everything from local derbies to the President’s Cup, but the memory of the cancelled 2023 tournament remains in the empty seats.
