Ufa-Arena
Ufa, Russia
Ufa-Arena stands on Lenin Street, 114, in the Sovetsky District. The complex opened in 2007, built with a budget of approximately $80 million at the time. While many Russian venues took sponsor names, this one did not; the oil company Bashneft helped fund the second stage, but the ground kept its original title.
The surface is artificial, laid over a concrete slab with a refrigeration system.
It is not just a hockey ground. The Junior Hockey League (MHL) team MHC Tolpar has played here, and the women's ice hockey side AGIDEL uses the ice. The arena also hosted the IIHF World U20 Championship in 2013 and the KHL All-Star Game in 2017. On June 10, 2019, the highest recorded attendance was set during a Volleyball Nations League match between the Russian and USA women's national teams. The record number was 8,080 spectators. For hockey, the numbers are different; a match between Salavat Yulaev and Sibir drew only 4,753 fans, a figure that some locals remember well.
Between games, the space serves another purpose. The technical renovations in 2016–2017 updated the media cube and lighting, but the structure itself remained the same. It is a place where the city comes together, whether for a concert or a game.
