Virtus Arena
Bologna, Italy
Formerly: Segafredo Arena, SuperTennis Arena
Virtus Arena occupies a temporary space within the exhibition district of Bologna, sitting in Pavilion 37 rather than a permanent sporting complex. The structure is distinct from the city’s football ground, Stadio Renato Dall’Ara, which hosts the local team; this venue belongs to the basketball club Virtus Bologna. The parquet floor is the primary surface.
The capacity has expanded since the arena opened in November 2019, shifting from an initial figure of 8,970 to a current allowance of 10,500 spectators. It is not a static figure; the number rose incrementally as the facility adapted to different competitions. The arena closed in July 2026 following a Davis Cup match between Italy and Lithuania, marking the end of its run before the permanent Unipol Hall is constructed. It was built by NUSSLI.
There is another layer to the name. Until 2025, the sponsors branded it Segafredo Arena, and for a specific event in November 2025, it was called SuperTennis Arena for the Davis Cup Finals. The location at Viale della Fiera keeps it separate from the historic centre, placing it in a zone of modern infrastructure that serves multiple purposes beyond sport.
The arena does not claim the longevity of older grounds. The capacity of 10,700 is not confirmed in any official source, so the standard figure remains 10,500. The arena is a functional space, designed for basketball, and it served its purpose until the permanent hall was ready.
