Avignon

Thibault Roux, Maxence Jahant and Baptiste Bonnet all learned their hockey in Avignon, in the club's École de Glace or its sports-study section.

The club and its rink arrived together in 1969. It began that May as Olympique Hockey Club d'Avignon, and the Palais de la Glace in the Montfavet district opened the same year. The rink is one of the few privately owned ice rinks in France. It seats 500, and renovations in 2011 and 2020 kept it in working order.

Avignon then spent eight seasons in Division 1, at that time the second tier. In 2009 they finished third and reached the semi-finals. Two years later the club was liquidated, in July 2011.

Its successor, Hockey Club Avignon, restarted in Division 4 and moved up to Division 3 in 2012. It won the Division 3 title in 2014, which took it into Division 2. That stay lasted until 2017, when relegation sent the team back to Division 3.

Nîmes, home of Les Krokos, are the nearest rival. Matches against them are called simply the derby, or the grand derby. The team's colours are blue, yellow and white, though navy and white dominate the merchandise, and the older name "bleu et blanc" still fits.

Division 1 has not been part of the club's story since the liquidation. The 2009 semi-final remains the high point of the Castors' record.
