Nantes

The Patinoire du Petit Port holds 1,060 people, and Nantes hockey exists because of it. The rink opened as part of the Petit Port leisure centre, and in 1984 a club formed to use it. Officially Nantes Atlantique Hockey Glace, it is known as the Corsaires. Their colours are black and navy blue. A renovation finished in late 2025 added a new stand with 206 seats.

Success came early. In the 1985–86 season, only two years after the club was formed, the Corsaires won the Coupe de France. Cup football has its own rules, and they remain the club's only national cup.

The league side of the story is thinner. Nantes played in the top flight between 1992 and 1994, then spent the following decades in the lower divisions. Florian Hardy was in goal at Petit Port from 2003 to 2005, then became a key figure for the France national team and played in the Ligue Magnus for Anglet and Angers. Radek Hovora, a Czech forward, captained the side in 2012–13.

The Corsaires have a regional derby against the Dogs de Cholet, their neighbours in the Pays de la Loire. In 2024 they won Division 1, the second tier, beating Chambéry 4-1 in the playoff final.

The Ligue Magnus championship has never come to Nantes. Two seasons in the top flight, 1992 to 1994, are still all the club has there.
